PREVIOUS NewsletterS  Dec 06 - Oct 07

Hi Everyone,

News letter this month thanks to  Sally !!

Don’t forget there is a comp this Sunday the 18 th.

Same place but earlier time of 6 AM QLD time.

Evans Head was a great hit again this year (for those who can remember!!), due to the fact we are unable to have anyone camping in the house back yard that we rent out it was decided we had better look at the prospect of getting 2 houses so more club members can join us next year. There is talk that the caravan park was looking at opening up a few more camp sites, however this has not been confirmed. Sally has volunteered to look into these options and get back to us.

Placing for Evans Head Competition were

Open women's - Lisa   2nd

Over 50's - Neville   4th

Over 50's-  Bully   5th (anyone have his trophy?!!)

Old -Tony   5th

Over 45's -  Tony   5th

Open Mens - Matt   1st

Retro -  Matt   1st

AS you may have noticed matty had a blinder, and surfed like the champion that he is.

Other members who surfed but unfortunately were knocked out, Sal, Trea, Burger, Brett, Jacko Neil, Wal and Mike. And just because they did'nt want to miss out on all the fun Gerry and Jo and Garry and Debbie came along for the heck of it.

The Xmas party/preso is to be combined with the Old Mal Club proso day and the event will be held on 8th December at Royal Chinderah Golf Club, 1pm tee off (NSW TIME), preso around 3ish finish up aprox 5ish. The old mal guys have to surf a round for their points so if anyone wants to have a surf they can catch up at Kingy Bowlo if you like.

The next day is the annual Disabled Surfers Day at Kingscliff it runs from 9am - noon. We would encourage you to come along and assist, all hands on deck are needed. This is a very rewarding day for those of you who haven’t done this before

The Malfunction date has changed to 22nd - 27th April 2008 at Kingscliff. Entry forms will be available on our website in January.

For those heading to Byron for their comp the date is 1st - 3rd May 2008.

Lisa and Tony headed to Port Macquarie for the Aussie Titles. The waves left a lot to be desired, and those who got into finals were very lucky from what i heard.

Open Womens - Lisa  knocked in the  2nd Round

Over 35's Womens  Lisa knocked in the semis

Over 45's  Tony knocked in the quarters

The October round was held at Rainbow in some great pretty un crowded conditions everyone got their fair share of quality waves, fun for all!!.

Thanks to Sal and her helpers for another fine BBQ lunch

See You All There.

Whoops,

I forgot a month or 2.

Not much to tell you but you know the saying NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!!

Quite a few went to the Evans Invitational, even though I didn’t enter Jo & I went down for the weekend and the grey house and backyard were full, the couple of days there were filled with fun and laughter with some great hairstyles being done on the Saturday evening by some up and coming hair stylists.  Who would think to bring hair clippers to a surfing weekend?? What else do they bring that we don’t know about yet??

Shaun’s kids did a great job cutting up wood for the fire with what I thought was no more than a blunt knife, took hours !!

Michael spent hours getting the TV reception just right for the Grand Final on Sunday arvo and it’s just as well we had Work Place & Health safety conscious people like Bully to notice that some one may trip over the antenna lead so it was moved, to the detriment of the reception and took 4 guys to get the reception back after another hour of fiddling around. I’ve never seen Michael look at any one like that before !!

Even though there was very little surf I ‘m sure all had a great time as the Evens Head crew know to make all welcome with a well run contest.

I’m sure Sal will book it again for next year.

DON”T FORGET

CONTEST ON SUNDAY   Same place - Same time

July Round

We started at Rainbow but ended up in front of the bowlo at Kingscliff. The right decision was made as the banks were really great. There was some good surfing and it turned out to be another great day of surfing.

Scotts Head Contest

Some of the crew headed down on Thursday, Sal and Lisa went with Matty and Neil, Bully and I did the annual migration south.

As per usual we called into Arrawarra and found some good surf, after a few hours in the water we continued the journey, calling into say hello to Billy Tolhurst who as usual was glad to down the tools and have a few beers with us. After refreshment (beers) it was onto Scotts were we caught up with Gerry and Jo who had arrived at Scotts the day before (Wednesday).

After checking out the surf conditions Sal and her crew went to their accommodation more commonly know as the BAD HOUSE while Neil, Bully and myself crashed with Gerry and Jo.

We had dinner and all went to the Bowlo to check out the draw. Some of the crew decided to peak on the first night after consuming a million and one drinks not only could they not remember when they surf, they couldn’t remember going to the club. Being real troopers though to there credit they climbed the peak over the next two nights and moved into LEGEND status.

Now we all know that a lot of funny things happen at a contest like Scotts I could tell you quite a few stories about the bad house and also what happened to Jerry but as you all know what happens on tour stays on tour, however if you are looking for a great weekend away, make sure you sign up for Scott’s next year.

I thought that you might enjoy a few quotes from the crew over the weekend.

“My kids say when I drink I don’t look Pretty”!!!!!

“Hey short arse, did you say that lard arse?”

“Could someone tell me which is the gin and which is the water?”

“I should not have drunk quite so much last night”!!! and

“If you don’t drive me to the beach to surf my final I won’t get down there” oh give me a plastic bag I think I might spew”? damn bug!!

“Who drank all that port?”!!!!!

“How do you access the coffee?” This was the best quote of the trip. One of our legends was given a coffeee in a travel mug, after 2-3 minutes out came his quote and if that wasn’t bad enough he asked how do you fill it. Only a f----- brickie could say that. When asked what treats he had brought for the trip the reply was “I didn’t bring anything just my beautiful self”

Now onto the important stuff -  Results

In the over 55’s Bully and Gerry surfed up a storm.

Bully 1st

Jerry 3rd

Open Ladies

Sal surfed well, unfortunately for Lisa she had a bad call in the 1st

Sally 2nd

Old Mal

Neil had a hard heat and didn’t make the final

Open Men

3rd

Matty surfed great all weekend he wants to stay in the BAD House next year.

Over 45’s like Matty, Jim surfed great over the weekend and finished

2nd

Overall a great result for the Super 8’s

Next year we are going to enter the family division, and we are going to sign our last name on the entry form as the Dysfunctional family.

Thanks to everyone for making it a great weekend and to Gerry and Joe for putting up with us.

My excuse for this late news letter again [ apologies to the members who don’t have email as they wont get it in the mail by the weekend] is I have been away in my secret surfing spot for the last month having some quality time in the surf, up the creek in the tinnie, time with the kids and my wife over Easter.

Sorry I won’t see you all this Sunday for the club round as I have to get back to reality and will be away for work.

Hoping the waves are good for you all !!! meet @ Kirra car park 6.30 .

Weekend at Byron

What a great couple of days, those club members that could make the planned Byron escape had a good weekend.

A couple of the girls (Sally and Lisa) ventured down to Byron to set up tents at the Clarke’s Beach camping ground on Friday (of course jumped in for a quick surf), before returning home to pick up the kids, husbands and returned for a quiet night of camping (that is to be confirmed) with Trea and Burger. Come Saturday morning more member of the club arrived to set up tents and enjoy a relaxing two days lost in Byron.

A couple of us caught up with each other and shared a few snags at lunch time, whilst we discussed the previous days surf, (same old same old, you just missed the great waves). Then onto the more serious side of things, (the betting syndicate) we then decided on what horses we were betting on that afternoon to win our fortune again (we wish). Those who wanted some more serious punting ventured down to the Bowlo, whilst the women, children and anyone else that had nothing much planned occupied themselves until it was time for the afternoon surf.

We ventured down to the pass around 4.30 pm though the surf was small we all caught a few good waves, and had plenty of laughs. Afterwards back to the camping grounds for the usual BBQ. A great night was had by all a special thanks to Sal for cooking and organising us as usual. Plenty of food, drink and friends always ensures a successful night. By the way rumour has it that three of our guys (Michael, Burger and Dean) managed to keep the camper awake until around 4.00 am. Thanks guys at least some of us will be allowed back ino Clarke’s.

Sunday morning after we packed up the tents and all the gear, it was down to Watego’s to what turned out to be a great day. The waves were small but enjoyable to say the least, the weather a little overcast and showery, however we enjoyed the day, if is always great to catch up with the Bryon guys.

The results of the competition was Byron beating us by 1 in the final heat, being our usual competitive selves we have requested a rematch, it was decided that due to the crowds on the coast we would all return to Byron for the rematch a date to be fixed.

We all enjoyed a BBQ lunch supplied by the Byron guys, said our good byes before heading home back to the coast.

March

Hello Everyone.

The year is off again but with some positives on the surf front.

This would normally be the time we would have the MALFUNCTION [ no wonder the big boys wanted this time slot !! ]

Anyway it’s not far off and Sean is on top of it all with expectations that the prime surf period is moving from March to May so we should get great waves like last year

.

Attached is the 2007 MALFUNCTION ENTRY FORMS so get in early and then pass them around.

Scoop Terry Taylor has the following story on his version of the Feb contest, but before that I would like to thank Tony Abood for donating beers to the club to have in the shed which has been so long since we have camped there for a club round.

Boy wonder (wonder what he will do next) has the following to say for the newsletter.

February Contest

Our contest was held at Kirra in front of the old shed. It has been a long time since we have surfed there and a great day was had by all.

The first round was surfed in pretty good conditions, the tide was high, surf was about 3ft and the wind was off shore. Unfortunately the second round was on shore and the tide running out.

It was good to finally get some good surf, and watch some of our more experienced club members carve up some great waves.

We have a few new members and some old one returning to our club, so welcome to our new guys and welcome back to you old members, it was great to catch up with you all.

He also said that the bed Bully wants to sell is a queen size water bed (excellent condition) and any enquiries please call Bully on 0414 396 507 or home 55999167. The council won’t let him fill due to the water restrictions, but other than that it’s a good thing.

Who was sitting patiently waiting to surf in the second round when he worked out he was in the heat already in the water and going for 10 mins, not sure how he went!!

The club welcomed a couple of very recent additions with some small gifts to Carmen & Stacey .

DON’T  FORGET   BYRON BAY CHALLENGE on April 1ST which is a Sunday.

Check Sal for more details as I believe a few are making a weekend out of it so they can get to know the locals a bit better over a few ales on the Saturday night.

Next Club Round as per normal with the old mal final to be sorted after last round

17 TH  MARCH @ Kirra car park.

As the Club is a little smaller now it has been decided that Life Members will now contribute to the club fees to the tune of $20 which is a small token considering the years of free membership enjoyed by all the life members.

www.goldcoastmalibuclub.com/ is the place to go for the 2007 MALFUNCTION PROGRAM [ if you have a computer !!!]

Club members expressed their interest to surf in more teams comps, in the old days we used to usually have two teams in these events, I have been talking to Col McKenzie from Byron club, they are keen to make a week end of it, the only dates we could find best was in April, I will keep you posted after I speak with Col again.
