Sixty Seconds with Bully Arnold
Brief overview of Mentawais Surfing Safari
I am sitting here with Bully, having a couple of
coldies (how unusual) thought everyone might be interested in the
highlights of his recent trip.
Bully how would you describe your trip?
As you know I am not one to stray too far from home,
however I must admit it was and experience that I will remember for a long
time and would most certainly recommend it to anyone looking for this type
of holiday.
How was the flight over?
Like everyone we weren’t looking forward to the flight,
after meeting up with my fellow travellers at Brisbane Airport and sinking
a few coldies it was onto the plane for a 7 hour trip to Singapore where
we all had a cat nap before our next 2 hour flight to Panang. We managed
to down a few beers on the flight and to our surprise we landed in good
condition, we were all looking forward to boarding the boat and setting
sail on our surfing and fishing safari.
How was the boat?
I must admit that it was first class all the way, the
food and the service provided was really great and the crew made you feel
right at home. The other guys on the trip were just as keen as me to enjoy
themselves and make the most of the trip which we did.
Now the important question how was the surf?
At times it was great, however it was a little
inconsistent but that is the luck of the draw, as we all know. Some days
the guys surfed mal’s as the waves were to small for their shortboards. We
visited a lot of reefs but due to the small conditions and low tides it
was not always that good, however we did manage to get a surf everyday.
Did you visit any of the Islands?
There are some beautiful unspoilt islands around that
part of the world and we managed to make a few of the locals laugh with
our aussie humour. I can certainly understand why these islands are
classed as third world, the people there seem to have a very short
lifespan compared with ours, they live off the land and whatever they can
scrouge, however they seem to be very happy and content with their lives.
Would you take the trip again?
Definitely given the opportunity, it would be great if
a few of the crew could make it to. The flight back was very tiring after
such a restful two weeks, however it was good to get back and see my
family and friends.
