REGISTRATIONS OPEN FOR 2008 MALFUNCTION

                                                                                 RELEASED: 29/01/08

Registration has now opened (29 January, 2008) for Australia’s premier longboard surfing event, the 2008 Malfunction to be held in Kingscliff on the New Tweed Coast from 22 – 27 April 2008.

A feature on the ASP World Longboard Qualifying Series, the competition will also include a series of events to be held at Casuarina Domain Beach Resort during the six-day festival.

Event organiser, Sean McKeown, said there has been a huge amount of interest in this year’s event so he urges competitors to get in quickly to secure their ticket into the competition.

“Since we announced the move to the New Tweed Coast we have been inundated with queries from around the world in regards to entering the event,” he said.

“For safety reasons we have to cap the number of competitors so if you want to make sure you are surfing the breaks down at Kingscliff then jump on line as soon as possible.”

He said the move to the New Tweed Coast has provided the perfect base to stage the biggest and best Malfunction competition on record, incorporating a new ‘Surf Lifestyle Festival’.

“This is the 25th year of the Malfunction so we are going to make sure it’s extra special with a series of celebrations and events to commemorate the milestone,” he said.

The event will encompass a number of open amateur and aged divisions for traditional surfers, a leg of the ASP World Longboard Qualifying Series, for Men & Women, a Retro division for boards constructed prior to 1981, and the new craze of Stand Up Paddle Surfing .
